Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has donated over a thousand school uniforms to children in Ealing to help families facing the cost of living crisis.
Saka, who was born and raised in Ealing, donated uniforms to four schools, including Edward Betham and Greenford High - which he attended as a child.
The 23-year-old surprised children, parents, and teachers by turning up in person last Thursday while they were collecting their uniforms.
He handed out uniforms, signed autographs, and posed for photographs with delighted children meeting one of their heroes.
In total, Saka has gifted more than a thousand school uniforms to the local community, hoping to ease the burden on families struggling with the current cost of living pressures.
Saka has close ties to Ealing, having spent his childhood there, and three years ago he was awarded the Freedom of the Borough.
He was nominated for the accolade by the leader of Ealing Council, Peter Mason, following his starring role for England at Euro 2020.
“It gives me immeasurable pride to be able to, in his presence, move that Bukayo Saka be awarded the freedom of our borough,” Mason said at the time.
“Someone who has, in the blink of an eye, progressed from the incredible GCSE results at Greenford High, playing on Brentside Fields, to the top flight of football and representing our nation at Wembley.”
Since coming through Arsenal’s academy to star for club and country, Saka has become heavily involved in charity work.
Since 2022, he has supported the children’s medical charity BigShoe by helping to fund life-changing operations in Kano, Nigeria.
Saka’s parents are from Nigeria, and he is proud of his heritage - which has inspired his charitable work there as well.
