In a recent report, The Athletic revealed that Arsenal are ready to step up their efforts to land Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. It has been stated that the Gunners could move in for the Ecuadorian talent if they can make some player sales before the end of this transfer window.
Hincapie had a solid campaign at the German club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old scored three goals and secured a couple of assists in 45 matches for Bayer 04 Leverkusen last season across multiple competitions.
The Ecuadorian talent was a rock at the back as he made 52 tackles, 40 blocks and 32 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was even tidy with his ball distribution, based on his pass success rate of 87.9% in the top tier of German football (stats via fbref.com).
Hincapie is under contract at Bayer Leverkusen until the summer of 2029. Thus, the Gunners would have to make a big offer if they want to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.

Hincapie is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his strong 1.84m frame to win a few aerial duels for his team.
The Ecuadorian sensation mainly operates as a central defender but can also serve as a left-back or as a left-sided wide player if told to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to handle the high intensity of the Premier League if the Gunners manage to land him this summer.
Hincapie would add more quality and depth to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s defence. He is good enough to serve as an ideal back-up to William Saliba and Gabriel at the North London club this season.
At 23, Hincapie has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good choice for the North London club to pursue in this transfer window. Thus, Arteta should focus on snapping him up soon.
