Arsenal Monitoring Madueke as Chelsea Open Door to Summer Sales

Tactical versatility appealing to Arsenal hierarchy

Arsenal are monitoring Chelsea’s Noni Madueke as part of their summer assessment of wide options, according to The Telegraph. While there has been no formal approach, nor talks between the two clubs, Madueke is firmly on the radar.

The North London club are evaluating multiple wide forwards as part of a broader recruitment strategy, with manager Mikel Arteta seeking to add both a winger and a striker. Madueke’s capacity to operate on either flank is an obvious draw, particularly given Bukayo Saka’s heavy workload last season. A player who can deputise or rotate on the right while offering an inverted threat from the left fits the brief precisely.

Madueke, 23, produced 11 goals and five assists last season and earned international recognition as a result. His assist for Harry Kane in England’s win over Andorra highlighted the creative threat he can pose. He finished the campaign playing off the left, with Pedro Neto establishing himself as the preferred option on the right under Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea’s shifting priorities impact Madueke’s status

Although Chelsea have not listed Madueke for sale, nor offered him out, there is growing belief among Premier League rivals that he may be available for the right price. He is not seen as “untouchable” at Stamford Bridge, a telling indicator as the club continues its aggressive squad reshaping.

Their interest in signing a new left-sided winger, with Jamie Gittens their top target, further clouds Madueke’s place in Maresca’s plans. With a World Cup on the horizon next summer, regular minutes will be crucial for any player on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Napoli’s interest in Kepa Arrizabalaga, as well as the recent sales of Jorginho and Kai Havertz to Arsenal, underlines that Chelsea are not averse to trading with direct rivals. The precedent, if not the rivalry, has softened.

Market competition heating up

Arsenal are not alone in considering Madueke. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are both exploring wide options, especially players comfortable operating from the right. Meanwhile, Manchester United are pushing for Bryan Mbeumo and remain confident despite Spurs’ late interest.

Nico Williams had also been on Arsenal’s wishlist, but the Spain international now appears destined for Barcelona, with Bayern Munich still monitoring developments.

This leaves Madueke as one of the few high-ceiling, multi-functional options still potentially available on the market.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Arsenal’s recent success in cherry-picking Chelsea cast-offs — Jorginho and Havertz chief among them — has been welcome, but not all inheritances are equally valuable. Madueke’s flashes of brilliance have yet to coalesce into the consistency required at the top end of the Premier League. His numbers are respectable, but not outstanding, and it’s debatable whether he offers more than what Arsenal already have.

There’s also the Chelsea tax to consider. Are Arsenal really going to overpay for a player who may find himself pushed down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge? And how would such a move be received in a dressing room already teeming with attacking options?

Until a formal bid materialises, it is simply due diligence. But fans will hope the club are aiming higher than short-term squad depth and potentially inflated fees.
