It was business as usual in the Premier League, with four matches occurring at 3pm this Saturday.

All but one of the eight teams playing this afternoon find themselves at the bottom end of the table. Fulham‘s successful trip to play London’s rivals Crystal Palace saw them climb up to seventh. There was also an early relegation six-pointer, with second-from-bottom Wolves beating 20th-place Southampton.

Elsewhere, Brentford edged Bournemouth in a five-goal affair while points were shared in ‘the David Moyes derby’, as West Ham hosted Everton.

Are Brentford the Premier League’s most entertaining team?

Goals are the lifeblood of the beautiful game. If you want to witness a truckload of them this season, then perhaps head down to the Gtech Community Stadium. A total of 29 have been scored across six matches (4.8 per game), which is ten more than next-best Tottenham’s home (3.8 per game).

In Brentford’s previous five outings this season we’ve seen three, four, two, eight, and seven goals struck in those games. Today was no different, as five more found the back of the net. Thomas Frank’s men are the Premier League’s new entertainers, with the Bees registering 22 goals after 11 matches, equalling the most goals by a club in this season’s competition.

Yoane Wissa added two more goals to his tally. He’s been directly involved in nine goals in his last five Premier League home games (seven goals, two assists), scoring in all five matches.

His partner-in-crime, Bryan Mbeumo, is also enjoying these home comforts, having now scored or assisted in every Premier League home game this season (seven goals and one assist through six matches). Mbeumo now has 22 assists in the Premier League – twice as many as any other Brentford player and needs one more to equal Geremi as the Cameroonian with the most assists in competition history.

Bournemouth played their part, with Evanilson breaking the deadlock. He’s now scored in three consecutive Premier League matches. It will be an uphill struggle for anyone in a Cherries jersey to replicate Dominic Solanke’s numbers from last season (19 goals). However, with 60 goals in four years for Porto, Evanilson looks set to give it a good go.

Capital gains in Crystal Palace 0-2 Fulham

You never know which Fulham team will turn up, but in a London derby, it’s usually an unbeatable one.

Still riding high from their incredible comeback win against close neighbours Brentford, the Cottagers travelled south of the Thames to meet Crystal Palace, who are struggling in this season’s competition.

Oliver Glasner’s men came into the 2024/25 campaign with a wave of optimism but tasted another loss, sixth in 11 games, leaving them a point above the danger zone. Emile Smith Rowe and substitute Harry Wilson did the damage, with Palace forward Daichi Kamada seeing red.

The result means Fulham are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League London derbies (four wins and three draws). They last had such a run without a defeat in 2006/07.

Grumblings in the East End as West Ham draw with Everton

The departure of David Moyes at West Ham came at the right time. But although Julen Lopetegui’s arrival was meant unleashing the Hammers’ potential, what’s transpired has been anything but. The East London club languish in 14th place, with three wins and five losses.

After today’s goalless affair with Everton, they were booed off by their fans. As things stand, Lopetegui is second-favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave their post. On the plus side, West Ham did end a stretch of 14 games without a clean sheet.

Hungry like Wolves

Heading into this weekend’s fixture, each of Wolves’ last four Premier League goals have been scored in the second half of games. Meanwhile, six of Southampton’s previous seven goals conceded in the competition have come after half-time.

So there was an understandable sense of surprise when Pablo Sarabia’s strike gave the hosts an early lead, with an emphasis on the word early. The goal was scored after 108 seconds, making his effort Wolves’ fastest-ever goal scored from the start of a Premier League match.

Matheus Cunha provided the ball for the Spaniard and later doubled the hosts’ lead. He has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven league appearances.

Success also means Gary O’Neil’s men ended a ten-game winless run, thus becoming the last team to register a win in the 2024/25 season.
