Real Madrid youngster Arda Güler tonight sent a message the way of head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
As much came by way of his late cameo in Real’s meeting with LOSC Lille.
Los Blancos marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy for a Champions League clash.
When all was said and done, the Spanish champions were condemned to the wrong side of a 1-0 result, owing to a solitary goal on the part of Jonathan David.
This marked Real’s first defeat in any competition in over 250 days, stretching well back into last season.
So, what went wrong?
Los Merengues looked some way off their brilliant best over the course of the 90 minutes tonight, with creativity in the final third lacking throughout much of the clash.
As much changed for the better, however, upon the introduction of one player – Arda Güler.
Thrown on for the final 20+ minutes in Lille, Turkish international Güler added some much-needed guile to the visitors’ ranks, carving out a number of clear goalscoring opportunities, before coming close to finding the net with a header of his own in injury-time.
Real Madrid, in truth, were crying out for the influence of such a player throughout Wednesday’s action, with their 19-year-old midfield gem, yet again, having sent a message to boss Ancelotti and his coaching staff that he is more than ready to contribute in high-pressure moments when his teammates need him most.
