I think it was universally expected that with England having no natural left-side attacking player who is comfortable staying out wide there and stretching play, Anthony Gordon would be as a minimum used as an impact sub in the Euros.

Despite England so poor in the group stage despite a weak group AND zero threat on the left side, with Phil Foden disappearing inside all the time, zero starts for Anthony Gordon, no sub appearances against Serbia and Denmark, then given one minute of normal time against Slovenia!

Player turned pundit Jamie O’Hara quoted by DAZN, reacting to the Gareth Southgate treatment of Anthony Gordon:

“In three games, Gareth Southgate has only given Anthony Gordon two minutes off the bench.

“He was Newcastle’s best player this season and probably the best left-winger in the country.

“But he has been given two minutes!

“Gordon must be thinking, ‘are you winding me up?’.

“I thought he did well when he came on against Slovenia.

“He got two minutes plus injury time and he actually made something happen.

“It comes to something when the best left-winger in the country has only managed to be on the pitch for a total of six minutes across three games.

All eyes now on Sunday, England playing Slovakia at 5pm for a place in the last eight.
