Anthony Gordon pulled up in pain on Sunday, with no opposition player close to him.
Eddie Howe forced to take off the England international with at the time Newcastle United leading 2-1 at Nottingham Forest.
Harvey Barnes replaced Anthony Gordon and the former Leicester winger went on to quickly finish Forest off, scoring a superb goal that saw United sweep from one end of the pitch to the other, Tonali with the assist as Barnes produced a clever finish through the defender’s legs.
However, as Anthony Gordon limped around the perimeter of the City Ground pitch, it looked all but certain that Gordon would be dropping out of the England squad for the November internationals.
Having clearly appeared to aggravate his hip problem, Anthony Gordon has now spoken to the media and with (so far!) nine players haven’t dropped out of this England squad due to ‘injury’, the one-time Everton winger asked if he’d considered opting out as well. Plus the NUFC star giving an update on his injury situation:
“No, that wasn’t a possibility [to drop out of this England squad].
“I came here to get assessed and see how it is.
“The staff here thought they could help me with the injury.
“They have done that.
“They have done an excellent job because I havve been training straight away.
“It [the hip problem] has gone to a certain extent, now.
“It is an injury I had a couple of weeks ago, it stayed with me a little bit, but there was no chance I would not come here.”
Great to hear that Anthony Gordon appears to be fine, that when he went off at Forest was more a precaution when feeling soreness, rather than a significant injury.
Newcastle United with a very busy schedule ahead and Anthony Gordon also asked about Eddie Howe, with relation to other club managers having had a number of players pulled out of this England squad (ED: Especially from Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal!):
“My manager Eddie Howe loves England.
“When I go back he always congratulates me on every cap I get.
“It’s good to have that support from him.
“He’s English, he wants to see England win.’
