Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is looking forward to returning to Ibrox tomorrow evening. The Australian will take his place in the dugout for the Europa League clash between Rangers and Spurs just days before the Premier Sports League Cup Final at Hampden.
Ange, who won five trophies in two seasons at Celtic, was a regular tormentor for Rangers and he’ll no doubt be on the receiving end of some abuse tomorrow. The 59-year-old isn’t too bothered about that as he recalls enjoying these fixtures, especially with his record in them.
Ange also might’ve taken a dig at Rangers’ title success from 2020/21, before his arrival, suggesting that games in empty stadiums were meaningless. This will rattle the cages of some Rangers fans, who appear to still be bitter about the punishment Ange’s team inflicted on their beleaguered Bears.
Similarly, Tottenham will be eager to inflict some damage on Philippe Clement’s side given their poor run of results. The added benefit to Ange is getting a result at Ibrox as his last game there, a dead rubber before the SCF, ended in defeat. Spurs have been unlucky with injuries but have a squad that is more than capable of doing some damage to Rangers, which would take the wind out of their sails ahead of the weekend’s Final. Ange could do Brendan a favour by really knocking Rangers in a typical ‘never stop’ display.
