A recent report from MARCA highlights that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been experimenting with various players in an effort to address the team’s shortage of right-back options in the face of injury issues.

One notable adjustment he tried was positioning centre-back Eder Militao as a right-back in recent training sessions. Unfortunately, though, the switch has not worked as anticipated, as Militao’s performance in this role fell short of expectations.

Although Militao has never played as a right-back for Real Madrid, he has some experience in the position from his time with Brazil and his former club FC Porto.

Ancelotti is not impressed

Ancelotti had hoped the Brazilian defender might adapt well and help the team in this unfamiliar role, particularly given the current shortage in the squad. However, Militao’s showing has not inspired confidence, leaving Ancelotti in a challenging position.

Real Madrid’s current dilemma is a significant one as the team faces a clear lack of depth in the right-back position. Originally, there was talk of giving young talent Jesus Fortea a chance to step up.

However, the youth team player has not been included in the squad list for the upcoming match against Osasuna, leaving Lucas Vazquez as the team’s sole option in the right-back role for now. This limitation puts pressure on the team, especially as they seek defensive stability in La Liga.

With the options narrowing, Ancelotti now finds himself relying on the same core players who contributed to Real Madrid’s success last season.

While the manager has tried different tactics and tested various solutions, Friday’s training session demonstrated that challenges remain in finding a reliable right-back replacement.

This could prompt the club to consider future options or adjustments, but for now, Ancelotti is left to work with what he has.
