Carlo Ancelotti has been coy when asked about the potential arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid.
The Spanish champions have seen an approach to sign the Liverpool right-back this month turned down. Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Liverpool is set to expire in the summer and the 26-year-old can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid this month.
Ancelotti’s side have made signing the England international a priority, though could be forced to wait until the summer to sign Alexander-Arnold as a free agent. Liverpool, meanwhile, have submitted a proposal to the academy product to extend his deal at Anfield.
Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to face Valencia tomorrow, Ancelotti refused to be drawn on discussions to sign Alexander-Arnold.
“January signings? It’s not easy to talk about this topic now. We will see,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
Ancelotti did confirm that Real Madrid’s defensive options are close to being improved by the return of David Alaba. The Austrian has been sidelined for a lengthy period with an ACL injury and is yet to feature this season.
“David Alaba is close to play games, he will be ready January 20. We will rotate more now, especially in defence.”
