Ruben Amorim has brushed off questions regarding the future of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United.

Rashford has not featured for Manchester United since being dropped from the squad to face Manchester City last month. Following that fixture, the 27-year-old expressed interest in leaving the club during an interview with journalist Henry Winter.

Rashford’s representatives are understood to have held talks with several clubs this month. AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are among the sides keen on a loan deal, while Napoli could yet enter the race as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia nears a €70m move to PSG.

Amorim was asked for an update on Rashford’s situation ahead of the club’s clash with Southampton tomorrow. At his pre-match press conference, he said his focus is only on the fixture with the Saints.

“I just want to win tomorrow. My focus is to win tomorrow and I will choose the players that I think are the best to win the game tomorrow. I am just focused on that.”

United have shown improvement in recent weeks to earn positives results on the road at Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. Amorim was asked how he expects his team to handle the expectation of dominating the game against Southampton. The Saints arrive at Old Trafford bottom of the Premier League table.

“The most difficult thing to train in one team is the way you build with the ball and in the final third the way you create situations. That is what a big team should do very well and for that we also need time to train. We have had for a long time a lack of goals.

“We don’t spend a lot of times during games in the last third with the ball – we did it against Nottingham Forest but we need to improve in that part of the game. I understand in this moment it is ok to play like that against Liverpool and Arsenal – against Arsenal we waited for the opportunity but in the future you cannot play like that and I know that but we need time to build a different way of playing. In the future we are going to focus a lot on that.”
