Despite a cagey first half-hour of action at Old Trafford, Manchester United were eventually allowed to run riot against Everton yesterday.

There haven’t been many occasions this season – or last – where pundits have had numerous contenders to choose from as their Player of the Match after a Red Devils game.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo were all amongst the mix on Sunday after each registered at least two contributions in the statement win. On the other hand, credit must be allocated to Andre Onana and his defensive contingent for claiming yet another clean sheet to make it six for the season so far.

Nonetheless, it was Amad’s stellar showing – even outside of his two assists – that saw him claim the award post-match. The Ivorian’s continued scintillating performances in recent weeks make Erik ten Hag’s frequent decision to overlook him for a starting role even more of a head-scratcher now that he’s flourishing – as fans expected he would.

United’s unrelenting frontline wasn’t satisfied until the tie was well and truly wrapped up with all three points in the bag, making it no surprise they achieved something that they’d failed to do throughout the entirety of Ten Hag’s tenure: win a Premier League game by a four-goal margin.

The Toffees’ third dagger of the afternoon came courtesy of Zirkzee and was instantly labelled ‘the easiest goal Manchester United will ever create and score’ by Dean Ashton on Sky Sports News.

He added: “Everton’s defending is just pitiful for the third goal. Zirkzee was really clever in the way he reversed it to Amad.

“[James] Tarkowski looked about 90 years old. He let Rashford run across him.”
