Interim Liverpool boss Amber Whiteley has admitted she wants her team to be more clinical in the opposition box, but has remained patient in the process.

Her side failed to beat rivals Everton at Anfield, losing the game 0-2 with Katja Snoejis and Karen Holmgaard goals securing all three points.

“I was disappointed with the first goal we conceded, it’s come from our own possession and our turnover,” Whiteley said.

“When you go down against Everton, you’ve got to have that ability to block up and defend as well as they have done there. I am pleased with the number of chances we’ve created but we have to be more clinical in their box.”

Olivia Smith was electric for the hosts, but with the chances she created, she should’ve had her name on the scoresheet. Whiteley acknowledged that, saying: “I think that chance was a key moment in the game, nine times out of ten Liv puts that away. Other than that chance we had plenty of abrupt opportunities to peg Everton back.

“We’re making good progress, but there’s still work to be done but it takes a bit of time.

“We’ve not been clinical enough but it takes time to develop that style of play and it’s relatively new for them with me and what I’m asking them to do, but they are getting better and making progress. It’s just fine margins.”
