In an interview with CARRÉ, Olympique Lyonnais forward Alexandre Lacazette (33) revealed he turned down a potential move to Olympique de Marseille following his departure from Arsenal. In a display of loyalty, the striker opted to return to his boyhood club.

The former France international was free to discuss terms with clubs across the continent following the expiry of his contract at the Emirates. Unsurprisingly the OL academy graduate attracted interest from numerous clubs, including Lyon’s divisional rivals, Marseille.

Commenting on the interest from OM, the Lyon captain said, “I could have gone to Marseille when I left Arsenal… Marseille? I’m from Lyon, that didn’t interest me.” After rejecting Les Olympiens, Lacazette made a heartwarming return to the Groupama Stadium and signed a three-year deal with Les Gones.

A wanted man

In addition to the interest from Marseille, the 33-year-old recited some of the previous transfer opportunities that also came his way before deciding to sign for the Gunners. The list includes a series of European giants including PSG and Juventus.

Remembering the previous interest shown in his services, Lacazette said, “I could’ve gone to Atlético, Juve during COVID, to PSG under Laurent Blanc… Paris, you see the numbers, it makes you want to go, but I didn’t want to play for another French club.”
