Midfielder Kristjan Asllani could drop to the bench for Inter Milan in Sunday evening’s Serie A match against Empoli.
This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. They report that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will start the match, and Piotr Zielinski could play in holding midfield.
Midfielder Asllani has started in Inter’s last couple of matches.
With Hakan Calhanoglu out, the Albanian international is the Turk’s first-choice backup.
However, Asllani’s performances have been something of a mixed bag.
The 22-year-old put in a solid shift against Venezia last weekend. He played his part in Inter securing a 1-0 win.
However, the Nerazzurri dropped points against Bologna on Sunday. And there was a feeling the Asllani was out of his depth in the midfield battle during the 2-2 draw.
According to Mediaset, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is now thinking about leaving Asllani out of the starting eleven for the next match.
On Sunday evening, Inter host Asllani’s former side, Empoli.
However, the 22-year-old may not get the chance to impress against his old team. At least not from the opening whistle.
Mediaset report that, even with Asllani out, Inzaghi is leaning towards starting Piotr Zielinski in midfield with Calhanoglu still out.
The Pole would drop back, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan would start on the left side of the trio. The former Arsenal and Manchester United veteran is back from injury.
