Al-Hilal are ready to break the Saudi Pro League’s transfer record with a €140m (£118.6m) bid for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The Saudi side are keen to sign a marquee midfielder and have put Guimaraes at the top of their wish list.
The Brazil international has been an integral part of Newcastle’s improvement under Eddie Howe and was appointed club captain ahead of the current campaign.
Guimaraes captained Newcastle to their first major domestic trophy in 70 years in March, as the Magpies beat Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup. He scored in the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday as Newcastle moved closer to Champions League qualification.
The 27-year-old has scored five times and provided six assists in the Premier League this season, while he leads the division for fouls drawn.
Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that Al-Hilal are preparing a mega bid, which could complicate matters for rival suitors Manchester City. Newcastle have no interest in selling Guimaraes, but have had to deal with Premier League Profit and Sustainability restraints in recent transfer windows.
Though unlikely, a sale of such size would provide Howe with funds to invest, after Newcastle were forced to cash in on Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to remain compliant with PSR last summer.
