Ajax’s hunt for a new number one has brought them to Merseyside, with Liverpool’s 23-year-old goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros emerging as a leading candidate. According to VI.nl, the Czech stopper has a clear connection to John Heitinga, Ajax’s current coach, who previously worked with him during his own time at Liverpool.
“It is no surprise that Jaros is in the picture at Ajax,” the article states, linking the move directly to Heitinga’s familiarity with the player. While the Dutch giants are keen to secure Jaros on a loan deal, negotiations with Liverpool are far from settled. The report claims, “Ajax wants to rent Jaros, but that is not yet final, because Liverpool still has too high demands at the moment.”

Interest in Jaros isn’t confined to Amsterdam. French side Lille have also shown a desire to bring him in, albeit as a second-choice keeper, which makes Ajax’s offer of a potential starting role far more attractive to the player.
That elevation to first-team football appears to be a key element in Jaros’ decision-making. At 23, and having built a solid reputation on loan at Stockport County last season where he won League Two, regular top-level minutes are now a necessity rather than a luxury.
Ajax aren’t limiting themselves to a single target. The club have also approached NEC for Robin Roefs, though their €6 million valuation was deemed excessive. “Attempts to lower the price by including Kristian Hlynsson in the deal yielded nothing,” VI.nl confirmed.
Other goalkeeping options being monitored include Kayne van Oevelen (FC Volendam), Dominik Kotarski (PAOK) and Jeffrey de Lange (Marseille). However, the growing momentum around Jaros, thanks to his past Liverpool connections and physical attributes, makes him the frontrunner.
While Jaros is unlikely to displace Alisson Becker at Anfield, his development remains a priority for Liverpool. They have nurtured his growth carefully, loaning him to clubs like Notts County, St Patrick’s Athletic, and most recently Stockport. A move to Ajax would represent a significant step up and aligns with the club’s wider strategy of increasing player value while exposing talent to elite-level football.

Liverpool supporters intrigued by youth development will find the Jaros-to-Ajax news particularly relevant. Given Alisson’s unshakable grip on the number one shirt, it is sensible for the club to continue loaning out their young goalkeepers. But this move would be different.
Ajax is not a casual loan destination. Their expectation is first-team excellence. If Jaros wins that shirt and performs in the Eredivisie and potentially the Champions League, it could place him in the conversation as a legitimate backup or future successor to Alisson. Arne Slot’s influence at Liverpool may also factor in here. Having managed in the Eredivisie, Slot will understand exactly what such a move means in terms of development and exposure.
From a fan perspective, this also speaks volumes about Liverpool’s strategy with fringe and academy players. The club seem to be moving smartly, not hoarding talent but actively finding the best environments to develop it. Jaros may never be a long-term starter at Anfield, but his trajectory could mirror that of other keepers who have gone on to command sizeable transfer fees.
With the Reds expected to be active in the market again this summer, particularly with European competition rotation in mind, this would be another example of aligning player development with long-term squad strategy.
