MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Xelajú MC hosting CD Águila in Group D on Wednesday at Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Xelajú MC started the campaign with a 2-nil away victory against CD Hércules. Romário da Silva and Pedro Báez struck the goals, while goalkeeper Rubén Darío Silva delivered three saves and collected the clean sheet. The Guatemalan side comes back home, where it looks to build on its winning start and strengthen its position at the top of the group.
Paraguayan Pedro Báez of Xelajú scored his first goal in the Central American Cup and became the second Paraguayan to score, after Milton Maciel of Antigua GFC did so against Managua FC in 2025. Pedro Báez is the second player to debut with Xelajú and score in the tournament, following Hugo del Cid in 2023 against CD FAS.
CD Águila will kick off its participation in the 2025 edition. The Salvadoran side returns for its second appearance after securing the best record in the cumulative standings. In 2024, the club made it to the knockout stage by claiming first place in Group C with an unbeaten 3-1-0 record.
All-Time series
Xelajú MC and CD Águila will face each other for the first time in the Concacaf Central American Cup and for the first time in any official Concacaf competition.
For Xelajú, this will be their second time facing a Salvadoran club in the Central American Cup. In their previous encounter, they earned a 2-1 victory over FAS on Matchday 2 of Group B on August 9, 2023, at Estadio Pensativo in Antigua (GUA). The goals for Xelajú MC were scored by Kenner Gutiérrez from the penalty spot and Hugo del Cid, while Wilma Torres scored for the Salvadorans.
CD Águila has faced Guatemalan clubs twice in the Central American Cup, with one loss and one draw. They were defeated 1-4 by Comunicaciones FC on August 23, 2023, at Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecla (SLV), with the visiting goals scored by Jorge Aparicio, José Corena (2), and Lynner García. Carlos Salazar scored for the home side. In their second match, they drew 0-0 with Antigua GFC on August 6, 2024, at Estadio Pensativo in Antigua (GUA).
