Ademola Lookman has officially handed in a transfer request at Atalanta to force a move to Inter Milan, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Lookman’s request comes in the wake of Atalanta’s recent rejection of Inter’s improved bid of a guaranteed €42 million plus €3m in add-ons.
The Bergamo outfit value Lookman at a minimum of €50m. An agreement has already been reached between Lookman and Inter for a five-year contract worth €4.5m per season.
Despite Atalanta’s rigid stance, Inter remain determined to secure the forward. President Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed ongoing negotiations and expressed optimism that a deal can be struck.
Inter have made Lookman their number-one target to further reinforce the attack, with Christopher Nkunku only considered a back-up option at the moment.
The move represents a chance for Lookman to play for a club with major domestic and European ambitions. He has grown frustrated by Atalanta’s uncompromising stance.
The Nigerian star has been left out of the squad for recent pre-season games and recently deleted posts related to Atalanta from his social media profiles.
Lookman’s decision to formally request a transfer increases the pressure on Atalanta.
He will hope they soften their stance to avoid a sour end to what has undoubtedly been a largely enjoyable stint with the club.
