Adam Idah is a man on a mission — and that mission is goals, goals and, well, more goals…at least 30 of them actually…

After an initial season on loan which saw him score at Ibrox and hit Scottish Cup Final winner against the same opposition, he’s now fresh off the back of a season that saw him grab 20 goals in his first season as a bona fide Celtic striker.

Adam Idah sets his sights on smashing the 30-goal barrier

Now, the Irishman has set his sights on smashing the 30-goal barrier and proving he’s more than just an impact substitute for Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

“Yeah, 100 per cent. I said it last season,” Idah told the Scottish press over in Lisbon, with no hesitation, as reported by Daily Record. “The more minutes I play, the more goals I’m going to score, and it’s a fact. I scored 20 goals with the minutes I’ve played, which is really good.”

“I’ve scored in a lot of big games, but now I want to kick forward and score in every other game”

And who could argue? The Cork-born hitman showed his class on the biggest stages — goals against theRangers in the Glasgow Derby, and Champions League double away to Aston Villa, But Idah isn’t just showing an appetite for the big occasion — he’s now craving consistency – which I think we’d all agree is the next step for Idah.

“I think I’ve been like that my whole career,” he explained. “I’ve scored in a lot of big games, but now I want to kick forward and score in every other game. The big games are great to score in, but I want to be consistent now.”

That consistency, he says, is what separates good strikers from great ones, and it’s hard to argue with that assertion. “I want to be the striker that plays every game and scores every game, every second game.”

With Kyogo departing Paradise in January and therefore more responsibility falling on his broad shoulders, Idah believes he’s ready to lead the line full-time in the season ahead. “It was my first full season being the number nine at Celtic,” he said. “There were a lot of things that I learnt over the course of that season, which I can hopefully bring into this season, so I’m really looking forward to going into the new one now.”

The 24-year-old knows the pressure that comes with the jersey

The 24-year-old knows the pressure that comes with the jersey — but he’s relishing it. “At the end of the day, we’re a team and we want to win games, win competitions and trophies, and we need the best players we can to do that.”

Adam Idah is making no secret of his ambition — to be the main man up front for Celtic this season

With 20 goals already under his belt and that target of 30 clear in his sights, Adam Idah is making no secret of his ambition — to be the main man up front for Celtic this season.

It’s worth remembering Adam Idah’s preparation for last summer was interrupted by a long, drawn-out transfer negotiation between Celtic and his former club Norwich. As a result, he had little or no pre-season under Brendan Rodgers.

It has been mooted we may well see the best of Idah with the opportunity of a full summer of preparation. Well, he’s getting that in Portugal right now. So would you put it past Adam Idah to hit 30 goals this season? I certainly wouldn’t.
