Soon, Luka Modrić will be officially announced as an AC Milan player. But before that, the Croatian magician already knows what number he'll wear.

A true Real Madrid legend with 597 appearances for Los Blancos, Luka Modrić is about to experience Serie A for the very first time in his career. He’s been wearing the iconic number 10 since James Rodríguez left in 2017, but Modrić will have to switch shirts in Milan. That’s because the number 10 is currently worn by Rafael Leão, a key figure in the dressing room since his arrival in 2019.

As a reminder, before making the number 10 his own, Modrić wore number 19, notably during his early days in Madrid. That number is now available at Milan following Theo Hernandez’s departure. However, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner is not expected to go with that option. Instead, he’s set to reclaim a number that holds just as much meaning for him: 14.

From 2008 to 2012, Modrić dazzled in the Premier League wearing the number 14 for Spurs, a period that caught the attention of Real Madrid.
