“A welcome addition to City’s midfield” – Chelsea’s £60m regista named in transfer analysis | OneFootball

Manchester City are in crisis – that’s no longer an exaggeration.

They have won just one of their last ten games. No matter what happens for the rest of the season from this point, they are set for a huge rebuild this summer, perhaps the biggest since Pep Guardiola arrived in 2016.

The Telegraph have today done a deep dive on what the club could do to turn things around and refresh the club, and a Chelsea player gets a mention:

“Romeo Lavia, who left City for Southampton in 2022, is now impressing for Chelsea too and would be a welcome addition to Guardiola’s distressed midfield,” their piece reads.

They’re not really making any concrete links here or saying City will try to buy Lavia back – just saying that it was foolish of Pep Guardiola’s team to sell the midfielder only to find out just a couple of years later that the cupboard is bare in that position. As they point out, it’s the same story with Cole Palmer, who only left a year ago and immediately flourished as City struggled.

Chelsea await repercussions of first major City rebuild

We’re not sure how or what form City’s rebuild will take, but it’s sure to have some knock-on effects for Chelsea. If the champions spend a lot of money this summer injecting a lot of fresh blood into the squad, it should liquidise a transfer market which has been pretty stagnant in recent windows, and there could be all sorts of domino effects for Chelsea and other teams.

We’re in a strong position with our squad – which means we can potentially be opportunistic in a disrupted market.

One thing we can be fairly confident of though, is that Lavia won’t be going anywhere. He and Palmer should be making City regret their mistakes for years to come.
