Former Chelsea star turned pundit Joe Cole has been raving about a player that Chelsea sold for £20m back in 2021 after he watched him this weekend.
Chelsea would probably admit to some mistakes with some player sales in the past, under the old and new ownership, but they have also got many sales spot on as well. They haven’t missed too many outgoing deals in my opinion, and many of them have needed to happen for the good of the squad.
Marc Guehi however, is not one of those. I am sure in hindsight that whoever agreed to the sale of Guehi at the time would have then regretted it down the line, purely because he has gone on to be superb.
But that is the beauty of hindsight, and at the time he probably had to go due to not seeing a starting place in the Chelsea team anytime soon. And he clearly made the right decision as well.
Guehi has been excellent for Palace
When speaking during TNT Sports’ coverage of Palace’s defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, Cole spoke glowingly about Guehi.
He said: “He is so assured, he is so calm. If you look at him, he is never ruffled. I think he is at a stage where he has cut out a lot of his mistakes already, so he is getting better and better.
“He is a leader. He is the captain of the side. He is a top, top player. I think he is England’s, if not number one, number two centre-half. John Stones and Marc Guehi now have solidified that. I think he is top, top-drawer.”
