How much should a Newcastle United replica shirt be?

Indeed, how much should any Premier League club replica shirt cost?

Should a maximum price be imposed by the Premier League for all clubs to charge, then no club can claim lower revenues disadvantage them due to playing fair, whilst their rival(s) charges far higher prices?

Anyhow, one Premier League club has proactively bucked the trend…

First of all though, from a Newcastle United perspective, the new Adidas 2024/25 home shirt went on sale earlier this month.

The new NUFC prices:

Adult replica shirts – £80

Junior replica shirts – £55

Authentic replica match shirts – £110

This then could be compared to other major Premier League clubs that Newcastle United are trying to compete with, on and off the pitch:

Newcastle United (Adidas) – £80 adult, £55 youth, £110 just like the players

Tottenham (Nike) – £85 adult, £65 youth, £125 just like the players

Arsenal (Adidas) – £80 adult, £55 youth, £110 just like the players

Liverpool (Nike) – £80 adult, £60 youth, £125 just like the players

Manchester City (Puma) – £80 adult, £60 youth, £110 just like the players

Chelsea haven’t launched their new home shirt or said how much it will be when they do

Manchester United the same position as Chelsea, nothing yet.

However, looking at what these two clubs charged for the 2023/24 home shirts, gives us a very good guide. Last season Man U charged £80 for an adult replica home shirt. Chelsea charging £79.95 for their adult replica shirts.

Fair to say I reckon that both Man U and Chelsea will be putting those prices up for their new 2024/25 shirts, charging more than Newcastle United are for theirs.

That is the ongoing trend, all major clubs charge more and more, year on year.

As an illustration with Newcastle United, the 2022/23 home shirt cost £65, which went up to £70 for the 2023/24 one, now £80 for the 2024/25 one.

Nobody pretends they are cheap but Newcastle United charges the joint lowest prices compared to the ‘big six’.

However, now we have another Premier League club making a very different decision…

Shropshire Star report – 27 June 2024:

New Wolves kit deal leads to cut in shirt prices

Wolves are cutting the price of next season’s shirts as part of a new kit deal with SUDU.

The 2024/25 pro jersey, the same as that worn by players, will be available to buy for £80, a reduction of £35 from the £115 it cost to buy last season’s pro shirt, made by Castore.

Replica kits will be priced at £58, compared to £60 last season.

Wolves say they have been able to save costs thanks to the deal with SUDU, which was announced on Thursday, allowing them to “streamline” the supply chain.

A newcomer to kit manufacturing, SUDU was launched earlier this year by Levy Merchandising, with the backing of Wolves’ owners Fosun.

Levy Merchandising’s head of partnerships, Joe Poole,

“We’ve seen the price of Premier League jerseys increase consistently over the past few years. Our philosophy is that a pro jersey should not cost £125, Wolves’ will be £80. A replica jersey should not cost £80, Wolves’ will be £58.”

So compared to Newcastle United, Wolves charge £22 less for a replica shirt (£58 v £80) and £30 less for the ‘pro’ one (£80 v £110).

Whilst when you compare them to Tottenham, Wolves are charging £27 less for a replica shirt than Spurs (£58 v £85) and £45 less for a ‘pro’ one (£80 v £125).
