Manchester City’s hunt for reinforcements in the January transfer window is well and truly underway. One player who was reported to be a target for the world champions is Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Khusanov is a potential target for Manchester City. The young defender has impressed for Lens so far this season. Could Khusanov be a player who could step in and play a role for Pep Guardiola? On closer inspection, he could, based on what he has shown for Lens this season.
Abdukodir Khusanov has had an impressive season so far for Lens. The Uzbekistani international has made 16 appearances so far this season. But his defensive play has stood out during his performances this season. When you analyse the strengths of his game you do get the sense that he could play a role for Manchester City.
In possession, Khusanov tends to play it safe when on the ball. That stands out when you watch him play for Lens. The young defender tends to help Lens maintain possession rather than look to break the lines with his passing. But for a centre-back that is fine as it isn’t his job to create chances. But when you analyse Khusanov’s game you do see that he excels defensively. As a centre-back that is his job and one he is exceptionally good at. The young defender is strong in a challenge. He also read the game exceptionally well and his positional sense is elite for a player so young. He is also strong in the strong in the air which is a crucial skill to playing in the Premier League. All told Khusanov could definitely play a role for Manchester City if they did move for the Lens defender.
Manchester City’s hunt for reinforcements has now seen a new name emerge. That player is Abdukodir Khusanov. On closer inspection the Lens defender could slot into Pep Guardiola’s squad. Given his age he wouldn’t be a regular starter for Manchester City. But in light of the injury issues that have plagued Ruben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake the young defender could provide defensive cover for the world champions. Now it will be a story to watch for to see if City do move for the impressive young defender.
