As this season has progressed it has been clear that a new era is on the horizon for Manchester City. We have seen Manchester City’s senior players struggle to keep up with the demands of the game as the 24/25 season has appeared to be one battle too many for a host of City’s heroes.
A rebuild is coming to Pep Guardiola’s squad, and the man who will be tasked with helping to shape it has begun work in an official capacity at the club. That is Hugo Viana who got a glimpse of the size of the task at hand at Old Trafford yesterday.
Simon Bajkowski has reported for Manchester Evening News that Hugo Viana has started full-time work at Manchester City. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that Viana will work alongside Txiki Begiristain until Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign ends. From that point on, Hugo Viana will take control as Manchester City’s director of football.
Hugo Viana’s commencement in his new role ushers in a new era at Manchester City. When Txiki Begiristain departs the club he will leave after 13 years at the club. He has overseen City’s rise to become one of the most successful clubs in England and Europe. Viana will be tasked with keeping Manchester City at the top of the tree. But he does step in with City in desperate need of a squad rebuild and will spend the next three months working alongside Begiristain. That time working with Begiristain should set Viana up for the road that lies ahead at the Etihad.
It is an exciting time to see a new era commence at Manchester City. Hugo Viana starting work at the club does signify this. The size of the task ahead of Viana does appear to be sizable but based on his work at Sporting CP he does appear to be up for the task ahead.
