One player who is seemingly always linked with a potential move to Manchester City is Real Madrid’s Brazilian international Rodrygo. Ruairidh Barlow has previously reported for Football Espana that the Brazilian international is considering his future at Real Madrid. Furthermore, Barlow adds that City have been linked with a summer move for Rodrygo. It’s always appeared to be a question of where Rodrygo would fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad, in my opinion. There doesn’t seem to be a ready-made role for him in the City squad on closer inspection.
Now, a new report from Freddie Pye for CityXtra indicates that Rodrygo’s representatives have enquired about a potential move to the Etihad. Perhaps Manchester City could move for the Brazilian international if they can find room for him in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Freddie Pye has relayed a report from City Xtra Português that Rodrygo’s representatives have been in contact with people close to Manchester City. The purpose of this contact is for Rodrygo’s representatives to enquire about the club and the city of Manchester itself. Furthermore, CityXtra reports that Rodrygo is interested in a summer move to the Etihad. It is also included in the CityXtra report that City has an interest in signing Rodrygo this summer.
There is no doubt that Rodrygo would add quality in the final third to Pep Guardiola’s squad. On his day, the Brazilian international can be unplayable. Manchester City have seen this first-hand in recent seasons. The Brazilian international has been a thorn in the side of Pep Guardiola’s team in recent Champions League meetings between the two teams. Rodrygo’s ability to score crucial goals has hurt Manchester City on several occasions. He is also a winger that City’s squad could benefit from adding. Rodrygo is perhaps a tad more dangerous than Jeremy Doku and Savinho in the final third. He is definitely more of a goal threat than both of those players.
But as of right now, there appears to be more pressing needs that Manchester City must address in the transfer market. Manchester City’s midfield needs strengthening. A City move for Tijjani Reijnders appears to be City’s first major move of the summer. Adding a left-back also seems to be high on Manchester City’s list of priorities. Perhaps City will address more pressing needs first before considering a move for Rodrygo.
Rodrygo would be a quality addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. He is a proven performer at the highest level. But for me, he would be more of luxury signing at this stage rather than a necessity. Is that a move that City would contemplate right now? That remains to be seen. Although the CityXtra report does indicate that signing Rodrygo is a move that Manchester City may contemplate this summer.
