The international break has brought a pause to the club campaign but there’s still plenty of interesting action to take in this weekend.
Here are our five must-watch games.
Scotland are one step from retaining their place in the Nations League A, ahead of the second leg of their promotion/relegation play-off with Greece. Scott McTominay’s penalty has handed Steve Clarke’s side a 1-0 advantage but the tie is far from done.
It was a gusty performance from Scotland in Greece and another will be required on Sunday evening. The Greeks only missed out on promotion after finishing behind England on goal difference and claimed a memorable upset at Wembley on their last visit to British soil.
It’s the third instalment of an astonishing quadruple-header between Manchester City Women and Chelsea Women this weekend.
Fresh from clashes in the League Cup final and Champions League, the WSL rivals go head-to-head in league action. Chelsea claimed silverware success with a 2-1 win in the League Cup final on March 15th, before City exacted revenge with a 2-0 victory in Europe on Wednesday.
After agonisingly missing out on the title last season, City have struggled to keep pace with Chelsea this time around domestically, with a 12-point gap to the unbeaten defending champions. Sunday’s showdown is followed by the second leg of their European tie next week, in the conclusion of a four-part series that is not to be missed.
It’s advantage Germany in their Nations League quarter-final with Italy.
Goals from Tim Kleindienst and the recalled Leon Goretzka earned a 2-1 win in Milan on Thursday, setting the stage perfectly for the return at the Westfalenstadion this weekend. Italy are up against it, but have previous when it comes to overcoming the Germans on the big stage.
Spain made it an entire year unbeaten on Thursday night but La Roja were made to work by the Netherlands.
A topsy-turvy Nations League quarter-final saw both teams lead, before Mikel Merino’s stoppage-time strike rescued a 2-2 draw for Spain after Jorrel Hato’s red card for the Dutch.
It’s all to play for as the teams meet in Sunday’s second leg.
There’s a seismic South American showdown on Friday night as Uruguay and Argentina meet in World Cup qualification.
Uruguay can move within two points of the world champions and standings leaders with a win, as La Celeste look to replicate their 2-0 win over Argentina from the reverse fixture in November 2023.
With Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala all sidelined for the Argentines, the home side will be smelling blood.
