The 2024/25 Serie A season has been a captivating contest between Inter and Napoli.

Here are five pivotal moments that have defined this intense title race.

Inter 1-1 Napoli: A missed opportunity

In their first head-to-head encounter of the season, Inter hosted Napoli at the San Siro in November. Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, Inter were held to a 1-1 draw.

Napoli's resilient defence and a well-taken goal from Scott McTominay ensured they left Milan with a valuable point, keeping them in close contention at the top of the table.

In a crucial match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in early March, Inter took the lead through Federico Dimarco's first-half free-kick.

However, Napoli equalised late in the game with a goal from Philip Billing, securing a 1-1 draw to keep the sides level at the top.

Matchday 33: A turning point

On April 19, Napoli secured a vital 1-0 victory at Monza, thanks to a header from McTominay.

The following day, Inter suffered a costly 1-0 defeat to Bologna, with Riccardo Orsolini scoring a last gasp goal.

These results allowed Napoli to draw level on points with Inter, intensifying the title race with just five games remaining.

Matchday 34: Napoli take the lead

One week later, Napoli defeated Torino 2-0, with both goals coming from that man McTominay again.

Earlier that day, Inter lost their second successive game - 1-0 to Roma at home. These results saw Napoli open up a three point lead, putting them in a strong position with four games remaining.

Inter 2-2 Lazio: A huge late blow

On the penultimate weekend, Inter were held to a 2-2 draw against Lazio and in doing so missed a huge opportunity. Despite taking an early lead, Inter conceded a late penalty, dropping valuable points.

This was all the more frustrating given that Napoli had been held to a scoreless draw at Parma, making the final matchday a must-win for Inter to keep their title hopes alive when their destiny could have been in their own hands had they not shipped that late leveller.
