Chelsea are preparing a move for Valencia youngster Cristhian Mosquera, according to CaughtOffside.

A source has told the football rumour site that the young defender has a “host of suitors” as he enters the final year of his contract, including Arsenal the the Blues. Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are also mentioned as keen on snapping up the 20 year old.

Valencia are desperate to keep hold of their talent, but knowing he has just one year left on his contract, are willing to let him go for around €25m to avoid losing him on a free in a year’s time.

Mosquera has stepped into the Valencia first team over the last two seasons after being promoted from their academy.

He’s also got some experience playing at full back, something which Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will probably favour given how he likes to use his defenders

Chelsea need to make big decisions in defence

Chelsea have a glut of defenders on their books at the moment and need to start deciding which they keep and which they let go. Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi look the most likely to be up for sale in the summer, but it also seems very possible that the likes of Benoit Badiashile or Renato Veiga are allowed to go should a good offer come in.

Then there’s Wesley Fofana – we can’t see anyone bidding for him given his injury history, but there were rumours Saudi teams could come in for him. If they did, Chelsea would surely have to consider cutting their losses.

Mamadou Sarr is being signed from Strasbourg, but it’s not quite clear whether he will come straight into the first team squad or spend some time on loan somewhere first.

All of this needs to be resolved before we get serious over Mosquera.
