The Lionesses of the Atlas booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the 2024 Women's AFCON with a 3-1 victory over Mali on Friday, July 18 at the Rabat Olympic Stadium. This win allows Morocco to continue their home campaign and secure a spot in the last four for the second consecutive edition.

The second quarter-final of the 15th edition of the Women's AFCON saw host nation Morocco take on Mali. Efficient against the Lady Eagles, it was the Lionesses of the Atlas who earned the ticket to keep their dream alive.

A blistering start and sustained dominance

The match started perfectly for Morocco. Just seven minutes after kickoff, Ibtissam Jraïdi opened the scoring with a right-footed strike, brilliantly assisted by Sakina Ouzraoui Diki. This early goal gave the home side confidence and allowed them to approach the game with composure. The Spanish coach’s players managed their lead well in the first half, despite a few Malian chances. Agueissa Diarra notably missed a golden opportunity in the 13th minute, her header narrowly missing the Moroccan goal.

After the break, Morocco kept up the pressure. Sanaâ Mssoudy earned a penalty in the 77th minute, which was coolly converted by Ibtissam Jraïdi, who completed her brace. Just minutes later, Kenza Chapelle sealed the victory with a stunning long-range strike in the 89th minute, assisted by Imane Saoud, to net Morocco’s third goal.
