According to Opta’s latest forecasting, there is a 14% chance that Olympique Lyonnais will finish in the relegation play-off place this season, and should they do so, Taylor Swift could throw a spanner in the works.
As revealed by Le Progrès on Monday, Swift is scheduled to perform at Lyon’s 59,000-capacity Groupama Stadium on Sunday 2nd June. However, this scheduling could ultimately prove problematic. Lyon are currently rock bottom of Ligue 1 with just one win so far this season.
The fear of relegation this season is very real for Les Gones and Opta have revealed that the club have a 36% chance of finishing in the bottom two. Only Clermont Foot (52%) have a higher figure. However, should Lyon not be automatically relegated, they could have to fight for their top-flight status in a relegation play-off, which has been newly introduced this season. This match would see OL face off against the 3rd, 4th or 5th best-placed Ligue 2 side with the winner securing a place in the top-flight for the following season.
However, the second leg of such a play-off is scheduled for 2nd June, the same day as Swift’s concert. According to Opta, Lyon have a 14% chance of featuring in that match. As reported by L’Équipe, Lyon would potentially have to play in a different stadium should they feature in the match.
