Of the various operations that Barcelona’s administration have at their doorstep, the renewal of Gavi is probably of paramount importance. The youngster’s extension has been a topic of discussion for several months now, but it seems like that saga is finally nearing its conclusion.

According to Xavi Campos of Catalunya Radio, Barcelona are now very close to renewing the teenager’s contract. Negotiations in recent hours have bridged the gap between the two parties and it is now only a matter of time.

The Catalans have finally sent a written proposal to the midfielder’s camp with improved conditions and payscale. It is reported that the youngster will receive a pay on par with Ronald Araujo’s new salary that was agreed upon a few weeks ago.

Gavi has offers from several Premier League clubs on the table that offer a more lavish pay. However, it has always been his priority to renew at the club of his dreams, despite recent reports claiming he had turned out an offer from Barça.

With the economics of the deal now nearing a complete agreement, details like the duration of the deal are expected to be finalized soon. One could expect a deal until the summer of 2026, like in the case of Araujo.

The 17-year-old made 34 league appearances including 28 starts for Barcelona last season. In that duration, he found the back of the net on two occasions and provided five assists.

He has also become an integral part of Luis Enrique’s Spain setup, starting against both Portugal and Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League recently. He also became La Roja’s youngest ever goalscorer with his well-worked finish against Czechia.

Gavi’s contract extension, should it go through as expected, will come as a huge relief for the Blaugrana.
