Ibrahima Cissé will join FC Schalke 04 on a free transfer from the KAA Gent U21s. The 21-year-old centre-back has signed a long-term deal with the Royal Blues, running until 2026.

“Ibrahima has everything needed to become a really good footballer. Not only is he an exciting player to watch, he’s also a good character,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “We are convinced that he will be an important building block in our defence as we look to the future. We will work together with him to achieve that.”

Cissé is also looking forward to the move to Gelsenkirchen, saying “Schalke represents a huge step for me. I am very much looking forward to it. I have heard a lot about Schalke and have read that it’s a great club with a lot of tradition.”

The 1.96m tall defender is a duel citizen of Mali and France, and currently plays for the Mali U20s. He came up through the ranks at Châteauroux, before moving to Gent in 2019 where he has gone on to make several appearances for the first team.
