For the second year running, Bayern Munich have their backs against the wall in the Bundesliga title race.

Last season they came back from a horrible start to claim a seventh consecutive season as German champions. Things may not be so straightforward this time around, with RB Leipzig four points clear and on a run that has seen them pick up 25 of the last 27 points available.

Having lost Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry last summer, and with Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski both the wrong side of 30, it’s time for the club to start planning their future.

What will the next great Bayern attack look like?

Well, it won’t include Timo Werner or Philippe Coutinho.

According to SportBILD, the club have decided they won’t pursue a move for Werner, who is currently competing with Lewandowski for the Bundesliga top scorer award, because the Pole is still at the top of his game.

As for Coutinho, Bayern have until the middle of May to inform Barcelona that they want to take up the €120m option to make his loan move permanent. But he hasn’t convinced the club that he is worth it with his performances so far.

Instead, the new attack should be built around two young Germans.

Leroy Sané remains the club’s top target and the report claims Bayern expect a deal and five-year contract to be worth around €200m in total.

They still hope to sign the Manchester City winger for under €100m with his contract expiring in less than 18 months.

Then there’s Kai Havertz. According to the report, Bayer Leverkusen want up to €130m to part ways with the 20-year-old. Havertz has 27 goals and 18 assists in the Bundesliga despite his young age and is already ready for the next step in his career.

Whatever happens, Bayern are ready to go big in the summer to build their new-look side.
