Inter CEO Beppe Marotta insists they are ‘not afraid’ of Suning potentially losing control of the club to Oaktree tomorrow and hints he could even remain beyond his contract in 2027.

The deadline is in only a few hours for Suning and the Zhang family to repay the €275m plus interest loan – totalling roughly €385m – to Oaktree or see the club repossessed by the American investment fund.

Nonetheless, they were still celebrating their 20th Scudetto with an event at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan.

Marotta was one of those who spoke at the ceremony and assured the future is bright for Inter, no matter who is in charge.

“It is always difficult to confirm success, but we are already thinking of new strategies. We will raise the bar, but we are not afraid, because we are Inter.”

Marotta represents future of Inter regardless

There are multiple reports that if Oaktree do take over ownership of Inter due to the unpaid loan, then Marotta and the current directors would remain in charge.

For several years now, they have effectively been running the club anyway with very little influence from the Zhang family.

Marotta had said he was going to retire after his contract with Inter expires in June 2027, but hinted that might not be the case.

“I will be 70 years old, but if things continue like this, it will be difficult for me to walk away. It’s a wonderful family and it’s tough not to continue.”
