WSL: Chelsea win sends title decider to final game of the season | OneFootball

As the final day of the season looms, Chelsea will put everything on the line to secure the Women’s Super League (WSL) title. The Blues edged out a narrow 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur to go top of the table on goal difference.

The two sides had last met in October with Chelsea taking all three points from a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

How it went

A quiet first half saw relatively few real chances for both sides. Chelsea arguably had the better start to the tie, however, the Blues were unable to break the deadlock for much of the opening half. Maika Hamano finally broke the deadlock with eight minutes left of the first half. The No.23 followed Guro Reiten’s cross in, slotting the ball beyond Barbora Votikova.

The second half brought a far stronger performance from the hosts, with Robert Vilahamn’s side pushing for an equaliser. Bethany England had arguably the best chance for Spurs as the tie drew to an end. Despite a far less comfortable second half, Emma Hayes’ side claimed the narrow 1-0 victory.

The win will take the title race to the final day of the season. Both Manchester City and Chelsea are in with a chance of lifting the trophy, with the battle likely to be decided by goal difference. The Blues currently lead the title charge, sitting two goals clear on goal difference.

The final day of the season promises to provide plenty of drama with all six games due to kick off at 3pm on Saturday.

Manchester United will welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford. The Reds could do local rivals Manchester City a huge favour, with a win potentially enough to send the WSL title to Manchester.

Tottenham will host West Ham with both sides likely to retain sixth and 11th position in the table.

Liverpool will travel to face Leicester City as Matt Beard’s side look to round off an impressive campaign with a final win.

Aston Villa hosts Manchester City with the Sky Blues looking to lift the title for the first time in eight years. Gareth Taylor’s side will face a difficult task in their bid to be crowned champions.

Relegated Bristol City welcome Everton to Ashton Gate. The Robins have endured a difficult season in the top flight, however, Lauren Smith’s team will look to finish their campaign on a positive note.

Third-place finishers Arsenal will host Brighton as the Gunners bid farewell to several key players. The Seagulls could move into eighth position with a win over Jonas Eidevall’s side.
