Yaser Asprilla’s agent has responded to speculation linking the Watford star with Leicester City and Arsenal.

The 20-year-old was a standout figure for the Hornets this year in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the club.

The Colombian contributed six goals and seven assists from 44 appearances in the second division, as the club finished 15th in the table (all stats from Fbref).

His positive performances in the Championship have led to speculation over a potential exit from Vicarage Road this summer.

A number of clubs have been linked with an interest in the young forward, who has a contract with Watford until 2026.

Asprilla’s agent, Jonathan Restrepo, has responded to questions suggesting Leicester City and Arsenal are among the clubs eyeing a move for the player this summer.

He has claimed that neither side has made an approach just yet, but confirmed there is interest from top flight sides in the youngster.

“No one has contacted from Leicester," said Restrepo, via Colombian publication Caracol.

"There is interest from other Premier clubs and other European countries.

“Arsenal have never asked me a question. These are things that the media is putting out.

“Yaser, it’s no secret to anyone that there are many clubs in Europe interested, bringing forward possible offers that could attract attention and we are analysing and seeing what is best for the player and the club.

“We are looking, because the market has just opened and we are going to see what is best for the boy, a good project where he can continue to have continuity and now it will be focused on whether he will be called up to the national team or not, but he has a contract and we will continue to see what is best for him.”

Yaser Asprilla's value to Watford FC

Restrepo also clarified the potential asking price Watford may set this summer for the player, suggesting it will come down to the clubs to decide.

"In the end it's like everything else, each club puts a value on its player and in this case they are two players who have been doing very well,” he added.

“The clubs that are going to buy decide if they are going to buy and then we try to reach an agreement, they are two players that are very well valued and they deserve it".

Watford still have some leverage when it comes to Asprilla’s future as his contract doesn’t expire until 2026.

That means they can still charge a premium for his signature, which could lead to an asking price in the region of £20 million or even 30 million, which is what they got for Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.

Asprilla performed quite well in the Championship last season, going from strength to strength in a league where you don't see many South Americans blessed with flair.

At 20, he still has plenty of potential to continue improving, which makes him a very valuable asset in the Watford first-team squad, but whether they can hold onto the midfield dynamo is another matter, given the amount of interest in his services.
