The French player’s union, the UNFP, has released its nominees for the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season.

The one AS Monaco player nominated for an award this season was a surprise. Eliesse Ben Seghir is widely recognised as an exceptionally talented prospect, but he has only played 273 minutes across the season.

Rayan Cherki in comparison has played 275 minutes this season in the Coupe de France alone. The Olympique Lyonnais attacking midfielder’s nomination like Ben Seghir is a surprise. Cherki has largely struggled to find consistent form this season.

Désiré Doué has taken another leap forward this season and this has been recongised by his fellow professionals, although he is a worthy nominee it’ll be a surprise if he can pip the following candidates and win the award.

Leny Yoro and Warren Zaïre-Emery appear to be on the path to immensely successful careers. The two young players look like the favourites to win the Young Player of the Season after incredible seasons for Lille OSC and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
