UEFA have confirmed that nations will be able to name 26 man squads for the upcoming EURO 2024 tournament this summer.

The change was also in place for the most recent European Championships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and England boss Gareth Southgate and the 23 managers involved at Euro 2024 recently met to discuss making the change once more, a decision which UEFA have today ratified.

The move will allow coaches greater flexibility in their squads, and could allow some players facing a race against time to prove their fitness to be included. However, Nations are not obliged to name 26 players, with a statement revealing that managers can choose between a minimum of 23 and a maximum of 26 for the tournament.

The competition begins with hosts Germany taking on Scotland.

Final squad lists for Euro 2024 must be submitted to European football’s governing body by June 7, seven days before the tournament kicks off.
