Spain national team boss Luis de la Fuente has revealed his hope that Barcelona starlet Gavi will be afforded the chance to link up with his squad at the European Championships this summer.

Gavi, for his part, would of course have been plying his trade for his country at the Euros, had it not been for a serious knee injury suffered during an outing for La Roja late last year.

Boss De la Fuente, however, is of the opinion that as much should not prevent the midfielder from playing at least some part in his setup over the coming months.

Speaking in an interview with El Desmarque, as cited by Diario Sport, this week, Spain’s headmaster confirmed that he has already held talks with both Gavi and his agent over the possibility of spending some time in the nation’s camp at Euro 2024:

“In fact, I have spoken both with him and with his entourage, his representative, Iván de la Peña, with whom we have an exceptional relationship.”

De la Fuente went on to add that the Barcelona prodigy will be free to visit “when he considers it appropriate”.

“But I insist, being aware that for him it is a time in which he also has to be working at a very important moment for his total and absolute recovery,” the tactician concluded.
