Toni Kroos’ decision to retire from professional football after the conclusion of Euro 2024 has struck Real Madrid hard.

Kroos’ retirement is set to have major implications on the club’s squad planning for the season ahead. But while one would expect Los Blancos to immediately hunt for a replacement in the market, the club may have other plans.

No Kroos replacement until 2025

According to COPE, Real Madrid are not expected to look for a replacement for Toni Kroos until 2025.

Real Madrid believe there is no player available in the market who is similar to Kroos and as such, they are willing to wait until 2025 to find a replacement.

Once the summer transfer window is over, the Spanish champions are expected to utilise all their scouting resources to try and find a desired replacement for Kroos.

It must be noted that Los Blancos are reportedly monitoring the situation of Joshua Kimmich. The Bayern Munich star’s current contract in Bavaria expires in 2025, making him an appealing target for the club.

Bellingham to play in a deeper role

Until Real Madrid find a replacement for Kroos, the club have a few in-house solutions that may help them replace the German next season.

As per the report, Bellingham will slot into a deeper midfield position next season, where he will offer his box-to-box dynamism.

It appears Real Madrid’s idea is to allow Bellingham to play his natural game while ensuring a strong defensive foundation in the midfield. It is also a reason why even Eduardo Camavinga may enjoy more minutes next season.

Bellingham played in such a role throughout his spell at Borussia Dortmund and there is no reason why he cannot do the same for Real Madrid, at least until the Whites find a replacement for Kroos.
