Real Betis and Spain alike have on Friday been dealt a hammer blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that Isco has picked up a significant injury.

Midfielder Isco, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Real Betis’ 2-2 La Liga draw with Las Palmas on Thursday night.

The 32-year-old, in turn, underwent a round of medical scans on Friday morning, to ascertain the extent of the damage done.

And, as alluded to above, such tests have unveiled the worst…

As per an official statement across the website and social media platforms of his club, Isco has suffered a fracture to the fibula in his left leg:

‘After the tests carried out on Isco Alarcón today, it is confirmed that the player from Málaga suffered a diaphyseal fracture in his left fibula.

‘The Club’s medical services will assess the need for surgical intervention to resolve the injury in the next few hours.’

Isco has since been spotted looking understandably downtrodden, whilst leaving Betis’ medical facilities making use of a pair of crutches.

The widespread understanding is that the midfielder, who was considered a shoo-in for a place in Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish national team squad for Euro 2024 amid a stellar individual campaign, will now be ruled out of the tournament.
