RB Leipzig are appearing to be more confident of keeping Timo Werner beyond this season.
Premier League leaders Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent weeks, with an expectation that the club would activate his €52m release clause.
The Athletic recently reported that Werner is holding out a move to Liverpool despite interest from Barcelona and Manchester United.
However, due to the financial impact of the suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic, it appears Werner could end up staying in Leipzig until next season.
Sport Bild are reporting that Jürgen Klopp is unlikely to activate the striker’s release clause.
Speaking to Sport Bild, RB Leipzig’s CEO Oliver Mintzllaff is defiant they won’t let their star striker leave on the cheap:
“He’s not getting any cheaper.
“We will not sell a player below value if he is under contract for over a year.”
