PSG consider new stadium at Saint-Cloud Racecourse | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain have been clear they consider their stay at the Parc des Princes non-negotiable as long as the current Mayor of Paris remains in office.

The PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has publicly announced if the club cannot buy the Parc from the city then they have no option but look for a new site where they can build their own stadium.

The location of where that stadium will be is not evidently clear and PSG are still weighing up their options. Not least the option to remain at the stadium, as L’Équipe, reports there is a case being made in the club to wait until after the 2026 mayoral elections, where they hope that Anne Hidalgo will be removed from office.

However, until then the club have remained active in their search for a new home, and according to L’Équipe, have been in discussions with France Galop and the mayor of Saint-Cloud, Éric Berdoati, over the possibility of building a new stadium at the Saint-Cloud racecourse.

The site has some key selling points for the PSG hierarchy unlike some of the other places discussed, such as a site in Montigny-le-Bretonneux or in Poissey near their training centre, as Saint-Cloud would keep the club close to the city (within 10km of the Parc) and in sight of Eiffel Tower.

A monument that has been frequently used by the owners of PSG since they bought the club in 2011. For instance, when they requested that the Eiffel Tower would be lit up in the colours of Brazil to announce the signing of Neymar Jr (32).

Problems face PSG at the Saint-Cloud Racecourse

There still remains some issues facing PSG over this site, a new 60,000-seater stadium would necessitate a change in the public transport infrastructure with the current bus and railway links needing to run far more frequently to ease the flow of traffic before and after the game, which would suggest a change to the current local urban planning framework.

Furthermore, the Saint-Cloud racecourse is a historically protected location, and as sources close to the matter suggested to L’Équipe, France Galop are not particularly a company inclined to be a seller.

France Galop did not respond to the French paper’s request for comment, while PSG only confirmed that they are continuing with their analysis of different sites as they search for the best place for their new home.
