The Champions League round of 16 is in the record books, and we had some very interesting results domestically this week too.

It’s now time to update our weekly list of Europe’s top 10 most in-form sides.

10. Barcelona (🆕)

It has been far from a perfect season for Barça, but the seven-match unbeaten run they are currently on in LaLiga makes them the league’s most in-form team.

Winning the title still looks beyond them, and they have a tough clash away at Atlético de Madrid to come this weekend, but Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Napoli in the Champions League means the Blaugrana still have some hope of glory this season.

9. Galatasaray (👍 Last week: 10)

The reigning Turkish champions followed up a derby victory over Beşiktaş with a 6-2 thumping of Rizespor, extending their winning run to 10 matches in the Süper Lig.

They have little breathing space at the top of the table, however, with Fenerbahçe still just two points behind them.

8. Sporting CP (👍 Last week: 9)

Another side in very good form are Sporting, whose 3-0 win over Arouca at the weekend extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 matches.

But like Galatasaray, they have a slender lead at the top of the Primeira Liga table, with rivals Benfica just one point behind them. And they will be hoping their Europa League adventure is still alive after Thursday’s round of 16 second leg with Atalanta, with the two sides drawing 1-1 in Lisbon last week.

7. PSG (👍 Last week: 8)

The lack of jeopardy for PSG in Ligue 1 was demonstrated by the fact they could only manage a draw for the third successive match at the weekend, but a defeat for Brest actually saw Les Parisiens extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

And Luis Enrique’s side did then win on Wednesday, as they overcame Nice to book their spot in the Coupe de France semi-finals.

6. Manchester City (👎 Last week: 3)

Manchester City’s 1-1 draw away at Liverpool on Sunday keeps them well in the Premier League title hunt with 10 matches to go, but the reigning champions were clinging on for dear life at times at Anfield, and were a little fortunate to emerge with a share of the spoils.

They will need to improve if they are to put one of their signature end-of-season winning runs together, and you’d be a fool to bet against them doing exactly that.

5. Real Madrid (👍 Last week: 6)

After a run of draws and narrow wins, Real Madrid blew away the cobwebs on Sunday with a 4-0 thrashing of Celta Vigo.

Luka Modrić was the star of the show at 38, with Lucas Vázquez and Eduardo Camavinga also impressing, and Arda Güler scoring his first goal for the club. Their seven-point lead at the top of LaLiga looks very healthy.

4. Inter (👎 Last week: 1)

By far the biggest plummeters in our rankings this week are Inter, whose five-week reign as leaders is over.

Harsh perhaps, considering they beat form team Bologna in Serie A last weekend, and are now 16 points clear at the top of the table.

But a 2-1 second leg defeat to Atlético on Wednesday saw last season’s finalists ultimately crash out of the Champions League on penalties, with coach Simone Inzaghi left cursing his side’s luck.

Ah well, at least they can surely look forward to lifting the Scudetto in a few months.

3. Liverpool (👎 Last week: 2)

Like Manchester City, Sunday’s draw at Anfield meant Liverpool have dropped slightly in our rankings.

It wasn’t a bad result for either side but while City will feel fortunate that they didn’t lose, Liverpool were left feeling that they should have won.

Like City though, the Reds will still feel very confident in their ability to go on and win the title from here.

2. Bayer Leverkusen (👍 Last week: 4)

Yet another victory for Xabi Alonso’s side (2-0 over Wolfsburg) meant they remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season. Bayern Munich’s recent return to form is a minor concern, but Die Werkself’s 10-point lead at the top of the table is a very comfortable cushion.

They have work to do in the Europa League on Thursday, however, after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Azerbaijani outfit Qarabağ in last week’s first leg.

1. Arsenal (👍 Last week: 5)

There was a winner from Sunday’s showdown at Anfield, and it was Arsenal, whose 2-1 win over Brentford the night before meant the north Londoners ended the weekend top of the table heading into the final stretch.

The Gunners won’t be getting carried away just yet. They still have to travel to the Etihad at the end of the month, and there is so little to separate the top three in the league that the title race is incredibly tough to call.

But Tuesday’s penalty shoot-out victory over Porto gave Mikel Arteta’s side even more reason to celebrate, as they booked their first Champions League quarter-final berth since 2010.

They are loving life right now, and who can blame them?
