This was a game that needed to be won by Liverpool, to say thank-you to a wonderful outgoing manager, Jürgen Klopp. The end result was secured in a dominant first half showing, one that allowed the remainder of the game to see smiles and joy engulf a grateful Anfield under the Merseyside sun.

First Half

The opening period of this game was a case of the home side asserting their control of the encounter, something which was never given up till the end whistle.

The system and intricate patterns of play saw half chances emerge and drift away, whilst Jarell Quansah blocked the only real opportunity before the reds opened the scoring. It was once again Harvey Elliott who provided a moment of attacking brilliance, as his superb cross was headed beyond the keeper by the tremendous Alexis Mac Allister.

By this point, however, Wolves had been reduced to ten men, after Nelson Semedo was dismissed on 28-minutes (after VAR suggested the referee upgraded the initial caution), before the opening goal arrived just six minutes thereafter. The ongoing assault on the visitor’s goal continued until Mohamed Salah thought he had scored from close range, before Jarell Quansah prodded the effort in just before it crossed the line. The reds were two nil ahead and the first half had been rampant.

Second Half

On resumption of the second half, no changes were made as the reds started with complete ease and dominance of game 38 of the domestic campaign. There would be no 8th round left hook to wobble the six times kings of Europe, as the game produced multiple opportunities to counter and end the game as a contest.

The Liverpool manager was delightfully smiling throughout the second half at the continued spurned chances, whereas Wolves and Gary O’Neil’s men struggled to imprint anything of note on the one-sided affair. Luis Díaz hit the bar, nearly the whole of the supporting cast had chances to add a third goal, as the Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah, continued to fluff his predatory lines in front of goal.

The game finally found its full-time whistle, so that the real party could begin, as the crowd did not let down their beloved German manager once.

This was a game that was fitting in its result and dominating performance, as a true legend bid farewell to a fanbase that can never repay what has been given.

Emotions run hand in hand with this history making football club, which was no different on this last day of the 2023/24 season.
