Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made a strong comparison between his record-breaking title winners and the historic teams of their rivals in years gone by.

The Catalan coach and his Treble winners of last season made yet more history over the weekend, as they became the first club in English top-flight history to win the title in four consecutive seasons.

That success follows on from two globally acclaimed titles, as Manchester City won both the UEFA Super Cup in Greece last August, and the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia in December.

Manchester City could yet make it a quadruple of trophies won in a single season, as they embark on an FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Wembley Stadium to take on Manchester United for the second season in a row at the same stage of the tournament.

Without doubt, supporters and pundits alike will be wanting to make comparisons between Manchester City and some of the best teams of the past, but manager Pep Guardiola has already made his mind up on the matter.

Speaking to the media after Manchester City’s history-defining afternoon against West Ham United, Guardiola insisted that his current group of players and the era of the last eight years is incomparable to legendary sides of the past.

“In terms of numbers, nobody has been better than us,” Guardiola insisted. “The records, the goals, the points, the four in a row. I said before, if you ask if you win six of the next seven Premier Leagues, I would say you are crazy. It is impossible.”

The City boss continued, “We have done something unbelievable. In this country with the amount of football, quality of managers and teams, the team surprised me. The organisation surprised me.

“Before was Liverpool to push us to our limits and now has been Arsenal. I want to congratulate them for an incredible season. They push us to our best.

“We competed incredibly well again and for little margin we won it. I am incredibly pleased.”

Manchester City ultimately cruised to Premier League success on Sunday afternoon, with Phil Foden scoring a brace in the first-half, and Rodri’s effort from range applying the finish touch to a celebratory occasion.
