However, Brighton then clawing control for a 15 minute or so spell which ended with the opening goal.

Newcastle United fighting back and no shortage of effort.

That effort finally bringing an equaliser on the stroke of half-time with a fine team goal.

Sadly, no amount of effort able to bring about a winner in the second half as the sun beat down.

Looking at the individuals in black and white, interesting to get an independent perspective on how this played out.

Whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.

Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.’

Now whoscored have published their independent player ratings for this Newcastle United 1 Brighton 1 match:

As you can see, Elliot Anderson(8.5) getting man of the match via the automated ratings. He played really well and put in a great shift, should have done better on their goal but got the assist on Longstaff’s equaliser.

The Brighton keeper Verbruggen (7.5) got top ratings for Brighton.

However, the fact that only seven players in total, four for Newcastle and three for Brighton, got ratings of 7.0 or better, maybe sums up best a match that wasn’t great.

Gordon (7.6) was Newcastle’s biggest threat in the 90+ minutes, whilst Longstaff (7.2) and Bruno (7.1) were decent.

Personally, I thought Hall played well and was deserving of a higher mark, same wit Enciso who was by far Brighton’s best attacking player, thought whingeing throughout and getting booked for a shocking dive. Yes, it was even worse than Almiron’s!
