Speaking prior to Milan’s match versus Genoa, Rossoneri boss Stefano Pioli admitted last month’s Europa League quarterfinal loss to Roma is still “very painful”.

Milan were eliminated by the Giallorossi after falling in both legs, ultimately losing to Daniele De Rossi’s men 3-1 on aggregate.

“The elimination to Roma was very, very painful for us,” revealed Pioli during his pre-match press conference. “We had two typical performance but were still eliminated.”

“I’ve heard De Rossi reiterate that both games were more balanced than the score suggests, hopefully Daniele maintains this sort of clarity and judgement in his evaluations.”

Adding, “I’ve kept my eye on De Rossi, he’s someone I always appreciated as a player due to his mental and personality characteristics, I like him a lot.”

“Advice for him? I don’t like giving advice, just be yourself so you have credibility among the players and others you interact with.”
